After building a committed audience with a monthly residency at The Greenbank in Bristol for the last 3 years, acoustic trio Yetii release ‘Live At The Greenbank’, a series of videos, and embark on a 9 date UK tour.
For their gigs upstairs at The Greenbank in Bristol, 50 tickets sell out every month. The group creates a sound world of complex yet consonant harmony supporting simple, singable melodies. Solos morph into intense group improvisations that focus on interlocking, minimalist fragments: a shared single voice that ebbs and flows between and within the band’s original compositions.
Compositions and arrangements are by pianist Alex Veitch. Alex moved to Bristol 5 years ago after graduating from the Guildhall Masters program. He has since held a bimonthly residency upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s and plays prolifically as a side musician in Bristol. Ashley John Long (bass) is a virtuoso player and composer, well versed in extended techniques, free improvisation and chamber music. Alex Goodyear is on drums, something of a prodigy from the Royal Welsh. Side musician credits for the band include John Law, Keith Tippett, Simon Spillett and Nigel Price.
Alongside The Greenbank, the band have launched an ambitious video project over the course of the last year, documenting their original compositions and arrangements in their Home Studio (17 videos to date!). Videos have included their versions of Beatles tunes featuring Jake McMurchie (Get the Blessing) and Radiohead with Alun Elliot-Williams (Ishmael Ensemble), with their most watched video ‘Summer’ gaining over 18,000 views! This album is released alongside 4 full length videos taken on the night.
Notes: Alex Veitch (piano, compositions), Ashley John Long (bass), Alex Goodyear (drums), Douglas Cave (engineer, mix), Bill Sellar (mastering). Recorded live at The Greenbank, Bristol on July 7th 2022
