Following on from a series of collaborations with the likes of Annie Booth, Laura Hickli, Adam Stafford and Carla J. Easton, Scottish indietronica four-piece Out of the Swim bring you Medieval Tummy (Last Night From Glasgow), their first single for quite some time that utilises only the talents of the core members of the band. Ahead of releasing their first long-player on Last Night From Glasgow in 2022, Medieval Tummy offers a flavour of what to expect. The track is about the enduring qualities of capitalism and was largely written and put together, like a lot of bands in the current climate, by using home kit and transferring files to each other online.
Out of the Swim’s collaborations with Laura Hickli and Annie Booth have received BBC radio play; the latter was also made Fresh Fave on Fresh on the Net in May 2020 and was described as ‘the sort of song you could imagine pulling you deep into the water and never letting you go.’
Out of the Swim – Bio:
The core of the band is made up of piano, bass, drums, vocals and guitar, with copyright free samples and electronic beats used where appropriate to add texture to the sound.
The band flips between working on material as a core four and producing collaborative works with a variety of vocalists and musicians from the established to the unknown.
Forming in 2001, they have had several periods of inactivity, partly due to a core member living in Canada for ten years, but kept working in the background to develop their sound.
Influences include Portishead, The Blue Nile, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Massive Attack and Nightmares on Wax.
