Bristol four-piece SCALER have shared a new single titled “LOAM” which was produced by critically acclaimed electronic musician and DJ, Daniel Avery. Alongside the single the band have also announced details of a headline UK tour for November 2023.
The news comes on the heels of the band’s recent name change from SCALPING to SCALER. The change was announced yesterday with the band saying:
We have changed our band name. All future releases, performances & projects will come under the new name SCALER.
As this band has grown and the opportunity to travel further afield has presented itself, we’ve become aware of the wider context surrounding our previous name and how offensive it can be to Indigenous cultures.
We want to apologise for this, it was never our intent to offend. Everything else remains the same. New music tomorrow… This is just the start. ~ SCALER
The new single “LOAM” also marks a new chapter for SCALER. Having connected with one another following the release of their highly praised 2022 debut album “Void”, the band’s collaboration with Daniel Avery sees the band lean further into their club and dance-based influences. Combining adrenaline fuelled rhythms with euphoric synths that ebb and flow around their heavier sensibilities.
Speaking on the single, SCALER says:
When the opportunity to work with Daniel Avery came up we obviously jumped at it; we’ve been fans of his for a long time and working on these tracks with him really helped us be more decisive, to trust our gut and not overcomplicate things.
SCALER have also shared details of a UK headline tour to come in November 2023. Having recently been nominated for Best Live Performer at the AIM Awards 2023, the dates follow an extremely successful run of captivating summer festival appearances including a set at Glastonbury and a packed-out headline slot at ArcTanGent, as well as performances at Boomtown, Secret Garden Party, Visions, Standon Calling, Bluedot Festival, and many more.
SCALER initially formed at the end of 2017 with a desire to pair their hometown’s visionary, off-kilter dance music to the more organic instrumentation you might find in noise-rock and metal. They have since won all manner of plaudits at radio, press and through fervent word-of-mouth for both their eclecticism on record and for the pummelling intensity of their live performances. Last year, SCALER released their debut album “Void” via fabric imprint Houndstooth Records to widespread acclaim – including end of year mentions from Bleep, Rough Trade, and more. The record captured the band as heavy metal in 4D; moody, distorted and rhythmic, but full of electronic techniques that give the finer details room to breathe. The record also featured guest appearances from Oakland rapper DÆMON and fast-rising Bristol based rapper Grove, who brought vocals to the band’s music for the first time.
The new dates are as follows:
22nd Nov – 9294, London
23rd Nov – White Hotel, Manchester
24th Nov – Sneaky Petes, Edinburgh
25th Nov – Cobalt Studios, Newcastle
8th Dec – Strange Brew, Bristol
8th Dec – Strange Brew, Bristol – late show with Daniel Avery
Tickets go on sale at 10am BST on Thurs 7th September.
With a new name and single out today, as well as live dates to come and further music in the works, as SCALER say, “This is just the start.”
