Procession of Forms by Lindsay John

Procession of Forms is a series of 5 works presently in the making each carved from a single strip of high quality Welsh Slate recycled from the bed of a Snooker table. Combining techniques of fretwork and relief carving the entire series should take approximately three years to complete from the time of inception.

As a whole, I wish these works to be viewed as Objects of Contemplation acting as a catalyst directly stimulating the mind and imagination of the spectator according to their own experience and perception of life.

The INKBOT SERIES is a group of 32 jocular works originally drawn in rapid succession with black Indian Ink on glossy paper, each in turn pressed with paper before the ink was dry to achieve the characteristic and unpredictable ‘blotted’ look desired.

To retain original spontaneity, each drawing was rendered into a Lazertran transfer print and finally applied onto a background of mixed media and Gesso on board – media individually selected to enhance each drawing from among Acrylic colour, gold leaf, indian iIk, silverpoint or pencil drawing, newsprint or brown and coloured cut papers.

Sculptor, Dance Performance Artist, Lecturer at WASPS Studios

Lindsay John is a Freelance Artist & Lecturer based in Glasgow. Born in the West Indies, he came to Britain to study Fine Art Painting and Sculpture for eight years before moving to Scotland in 1980. There he began a self study and training in experimental dance combining aspects of sculp-ture, costume / body-appendage and site specific instillation into unique performance works found-ing ‘Catalyst Performing Arts’ as Artistic Director in the process. Driven by inspiration from the modern Japanese radical dance movement Butoh, from which he derived courage and direction, he traveled for a period to Japan to study and perform.

International works among others include the thematic solo performances ‘Before Form’ performed in Britain, Japan, Singapore, Spain and Italy and choreographic and costume collaborations with music and theatre group Test Department in Europe and Scandinavia.
