The National Theatre of Scotland at the 2018 Festivals

• Four productions at Festivals in Edinburgh and Glasgow in August 2018

• National Theatre of Scotland bring Gob Squad’s acclaimed Super Night Shot to Glasgow for the first time, a free event as part of Festival 2018, the cultural programme of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

 

• New cast announced for My Left Right Foot- The Musical including popular stage actors Dawn Sievewright (Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour) and Louise McCarthy (The Dolls).

The National Theatre of Scotland is bringing an eclectic programme of work to the Edinburgh Festivals in 2018, with three productions and a reading across the festivals celebrating outrageous comedy, musical romance and a unique international collaboration.

The festival programme includes two world premieres at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe: First Snow / Première neige an international co-production with leading Québécois theatre companies Hôtel-Motel and Théâtre PÀP, will be presented at Canada Hub@King’s Hall, while My Left Right Foot- The Musical, a witty and irreverent new musical comedy with Scotland’s leading disability-led theatre company Birds of Paradise, will be staged at Assembly Roxy. Both productions are also part of the 2018 Made in Scotland Showcase.

There will be two presentations at the Edinburgh International Festival. David Greig and Gordon McIntyre’s phenomenally successful Midsummer is given an imaginative and immersive new staging, taking up residency at The Hub, while a new workshop presentation and discussion of Ane Satyre of the Thrie Estaitis, presented in collaboration with the Edinburgh International Festival and the Royal Lyceum Theatre, will mark the 70^th anniversary of Tyrone Guthrie’s legendary production of the seminal 16^thcentury play.

August will also see the National Theatre of Scotland staging work in Glasgow, with the Company collaborating with acclaimed international performance collective Gob Squad to bring their innovative and adventurous Super Night Shot project to the city for the first time. The piece, which is presented as part of the cultural programme around the Glasgow 2018 European Championships, will take place for one night only at the Argyle Street Arches, formerly home to iconic arts and music venue The Arches, and will be free for audiences.

Over the years the National Theatre of Scotland has built up a distinguished profile at the festivals, having presented over 25 shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and International Festival since 2006. 2017 saw the Company produce and support seven shows across the festivals, its biggest programme of work to date, including the award-winning Adam and Eve at the Traverse and How to Act at Summerhall.
