The Gods Must Be Crazy @ Grassmarket Picture House

Grassmarket Picture House are screening the film on the 23rd of July (Monday) at 7pm.

The tribal people in a remote African desert live a happy life, but it is all torn to pieces when a Coca-Cola bottle falls from a plane. With the villagers fighting over the strange foreign object, tribal leader Xi (N!xau) decides to take the bottle back to the gods to restore peace.

The Film was chosen because it is quirky, unheard of by many yet admired and appreciated by a select passionate few. It is controversial, some argue mis-understood others some argue it is racist, offensive, others a parody, others go further and argue it was insightful at the time it was released – the audience can make up their own minds. Focusing on a fictional tribe in a remote African desert who enjoy blissful happiness and connection to nature and community, whose world is all torn apart when a Coca-Cola bottle falls from a plane. With the villagers fighting (for the first time ever the film implies) over this strange foreign object, tribal leader Xi (N!xau) decides to take the bottle back to the gods at the edge of the world to restore peace and harmony.

Our audiences include people who are homeless or rough-sleeping, people with disabilities, people with mental health issues, students, tourists, volunteers at the Grassmarket Community Project. It’s a wonderful welcoming atmosphere that uses film screenings to build community and transform lives.
