Tickets are now on sale for the first two productions to be staged during the Citizens Theatre’s first season at Tramway: Cyrano de Bergerac (1 – 22 Sep 2018) and the return of one of the Citizens Theatre’s most successful productions to date, A Christmas Carol (4 Dec 2018 – 6 Jan 2019).
While temporarily presenting work at Tramway, Citizens Theatre audiences can be assured that productions will retain all the hallmarks that have earned the Citz a reputation for presenting consistently excellent main stage productions at affordable prices.
Neil Bartlett’s version of the timeless Dickens’ festive favourite, A Christmas Carol, joins the previously announced co-production with National Theatre of Scotland and Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh of Edwin Morgan’s celebrated Scots translation of Cyrano de Bergerac.
First produced by the Citizens Theatre in 2014, A Christmas Carol was a sell out show and continues to be cited as an audience favourite. It also impressed the critics with its inventive storytelling, live music and “impeccable” staging (★★★★★ Herald, ★★★★★ Telegraph, ★★★★ Guardian ★★★★ Scotsman ★★★★ The Times).
Billed as a swashbuckling and flamboyant revival of a defining piece of contemporary Scottish theatre, Cyrano de Bergerac will draw on the talents of a creative team familiar to Citizens’ audiences, including composer Nikola Kodjabashia who has previously worked with Hill on Hamlet, Oresteia: This Restless House, and Hansel and Gretel, and award-winning designer Tom Piper, who was also on the creative team of Hamlet in 2014 as well as recent productions of Hay Fever and Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
Citizens Theatre Artistic Director Dominic Hill said:
As we temporarily move out of our home in the Gorbals in order to secure the future of our beloved theatre, we’re excited as a company to be presenting two exceptional plays that represent the best of the tradition we’re known for working in.
Both shows will allow us to innovate in a spectacular new space that will offer a whole new experience for our audience, while retaining those key elements that make Citizens Theatre Company productions unique.
Above all, we’ll be working to ensure that our reputation for making shows that create a real sense of intimacy between the actors and audience is maintained.
With tickets for both productions now on sale and likely to be in high demand, Citz fans are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. Key elements of Citizens Theatre’s accessible pricing policies will remain in place including £2 tickets for Gorbals residents, 50p ticket sales and a wide range of concessions.
Tickets for Cyrano de Bergerac and A Christmas Carol are available to purchase from the Citizens Theatre’s website or by calling the Box Office on 0141 429 0022.
