Edinburgh Tradfest’s Spotlight season closes tonight (Monday 2 November) at 8pm with an online concert available to download for 7 days, from acclaimed piper Malin Lewis joined by Ali Hutton (guitar) and Shona Mooney (fiddle). Malin is a piper, fiddler and instrument maker from Skye who started learning the pipes at the age of eight and began making small pipes at the age of 14.
Malin currently studies piping on the degree course at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow. He is also a highly talented composer and this concert’s setlist is drawn heavily from the band leader’s own oeuvre, with one tune from bandmate Mooney thrown in for good measure.

This concert was one of my favourite performances Covid or no Cover! It was a joy! The Traverse Theatre is a gorgeous venue and the Tradfest hosts are wonderful. This performance is extra special for being one of only a couple of recordings we have as a band and we can’t wait to share it with you. Please join us for some stories and music we love playing!
Tradfest’s ‘Spotlight’ season of concerts was filmed live at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh at the end of August and includes short interview clips, chat, and great tunes from the bands. The series kicked off earlier this month with the Old Blind Dogs, followed by Shetland Springs featuring two of Scotland’s finest musicians Catriona MacDonald and Margaret Robertson, and Siobhan Miller – one of the finest young voices on the Scottish folk scene.
All the concerts are available to download or watch online from 8pm on the day of the concert. They are 30 minutes long and can be viewed for seven days. Tickets are available from the Traverse Theatre Box Office
Douglas Robertson, Founder of The Soundhouse Organisation and Programmer of Edinburgh Tradfest said:
It feels great to finally be able to bring a taste of Tradfest’s 2020 programme to audiences, albeit online. We hope that these concerts will give at least a flavour of the energy and extraordinary talent of the musicians we bring to Tradfest each year and look forward to welcoming audiences back in 2021.
