Edinburgh International Book Festival 2018 – Unbound Programme

The Unbound strand of events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival gives authors, musicians, poets and performers free rein to present their work and ideas on stage in the Charlotte Square Gardens Spiegeltent every evening from Sunday 12 to Monday 27 August.  The 2018 programme, which has just been announced in partnership with The Skinny, includes an evening of poetry and music from Catalonia, a joyous celebration of Lord Kitchener and the Windrush generation, literary podcast salons from Damian Barr and Ross Sutherland and a foot stomping, dance-on-the-tables set from the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers.

Roland Gulliver, Associate Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, said:

We set up Unbound in 2010 to offer something different to our audiences, to challenge the distorted stereotypes of what a book festival is.    It brings together authors, some of Scotland’s most interesting live literature and a selection of international friends and partners and gives them the opportunity to take risks, have fun, challenge their audiences but always to offer a quality night out inspired by books and stories.

Unbound events also include a night of Frankenstein vs Dracula, the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas from the University of Edinburgh, spoken word performances from Out-Spoken Press and Ego Trip and Body Slam, a new kind of poetic performance of spoken and signed English and Portuguese coming all the way from Rio de Janeiro.  The series comes to a close on Monday 27 August when acclaimed singer-songwriter and novelist James Yorkston brings his award-winning folk club to Edinburgh with special guests Richard Dawson, Sheena Wellington and Jamaica’s Poet Laureate Lorna Goodison.

All Unbound events are free, kick off at 9.00pm in the Charlotte Square Spiegeltent (with the exception of the final night which starts at the earlier time of 7.00pm). Full details of the programme can be found HERE
