Scottish jazz-rock 5-piece Animal Society release new single ‘Hieroglyph’ today, along with a spectacular music video.
‘Hieroglyph’ bristles with irresistible energy, featuring bold guitar riffs, driving drums and a truly epic main melody. Recorded live in session at renowned Glasgow venue SWG3 in January, the release was supported by funding from Help Musicians UK.
Animal Society perform jazz fusion for a new generation. ‘Imagine if Pat Metheny joined Rage Against The Machine – then you’re in the right ballpark!’ says ringleader and guitarist Joe Williamson. Joe was a relative latecomer to jazz, having been raised on a diet of metal, punk and folk music before discovering the joy of improvisation and going on to win Young Scottish Jazz Musician 2018. Animal Society combines these early heavy rock influences with the free creative spirit of modern jazz.
The band released their debut EP in April 2019, and have since toured the UK and performed at the Glasgow, Dundee, and London Jazz Festivals. The release anticipates an 8-date tour of the UK and Ireland in early March, when the band will premiere yet more new material.
