My work is a representation of my mind when it is at peace, is present in the moment and I am feeling my authentic self. I draw my inspiration from nature and how I feel when I am in nature. I have filled my studio with plants to feel as though I am in nature when I am painting.
Before I begin to paint I calm my body and mind and let any unwanted or distracting thoughts drift away. While I am painting I feel free and lose myself in the moment. I don’t have a finished piece in mind I allow my unconscious mind to paint without judgment. I watch as my paintbrush moves around the paper and chooses its colours. Before I know it the painting begins to come to life.
My work reflects what I see when I am in nature – the bold colours, textures, lines and shapes. I use a variety of mediums such as acrylics, pastels, watercolours and ink to capture the different elements. I paint to release suppressed emotions. When I am centring my body and mind I am doing a form of meditation while I paint.
