Following the release of a number of illustrious singles (“Together in Delight”, “Home Is Not a Place” and “Prairie”), Katuchat finally unveils his debut album Still Life, released March 19th. Composed of 10 tracks, Still Life has been shaped by Katuchat’s various musical influences: Arca, Vegyn, SOPHIE and Boards of Canada – artists who inspire him in the production of complex and detailed rhythms. Experimenting with more melodious sounds and complex rhythmic arrangements, Katuchat wanted to diversify his music by collaborating for the first time with other international artists such as Chester Watson, LIA and Sølv.
Music being omnipresent in his daily life, his inspirations are complex and indefinable. They can be found in the places that surround him, the interactions, and the events which unfold on a daily basis. It is this idea that inspired the artistic direction of Still Life, in French Nature morte.
Music is a kind of time capsule, which we can listen to again and rediscover past moments, remembering the circumstances in which we first heard it, or even created it. ~ Katuchat
For the artist, the textured rhythms and glittering electronics are left up to the listener’s interpretation, whether these be joyful or more melancholic. On this LP, Katuchat has collaborated with long-time friends who form the trio JTM – the production studio that created his last video “Spleen”, released in 2018. Over the years, Maxime has created a poetic and captivating universe.
The French producer began his musical path with his first EP Lonely Cloud in 2013. It was during his high school years that he started listening to electronic music, a prolific period for the beatmaker. He also released several remixes during this time, standing out for his “maximalist” and innovative style. Signed to Roche Musique in 2018, his debut LP affirms his artistic ability and his love for elusive melodies.
