Rich, horny/hungry, pervert, masochistic, bored with life… These are only a few expressions which may describe Mr Grey the lead character of (Nowhere Boy) Sam Taylor-Johnson‘s new film Fifty Shades of Grey. There’s a girl, there’s a boy both looking for love. At what cost though? The ‘SHE’ – Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) wants it normal, soft, gentle, romantic but the ‘HE’ – Christian (Jamie Dornan) a traumatized kid whose fortune is of endless reach wants it rough. While she wants to love and be loved he wants to punish her in his room of sado-maso (BDSM) pleasures. If it hadn’t been for the spiced up porn like felt accents to the film, it would feel almost as teen and cheesy as the good old Beverly Hills 90210 only with much more money in context. This is yet another example of how much damage can the magic of marketing prior to premiere do to viewer’s expectations. Dakota Johnson’s act is not all that bad, which, unfortunately, can’t be said about Dornan’s triviality. Justin Timberlake would probably do much better in this role. To cut a long story short the film feels like a simple test to human’s assertiveness.
