On Friday 5th of February the group are releasing the official music video for their Black Lives Matter themed single This Will Change. The video pairs the track with powerful black and white photographs, from Scottish photographer Sinead Ferguson, taken at the Glasgow Black Lives Matter demonstration last summer. Capturing the depth and diversity of people who marched in solidarity that day, the photos are not only an important historical document but a source of pride for Scots who refused to remain silent following yet another brutal, racist murder by police in America.
Taking influence from artists like Frank Zappa and Santana, to The Velvet Underground and David Bowie, Felix And The Sunsets are an alternative/garage/neo-psychedelic rock group from Leith, Edinburgh.
On Friday 8th January, 2021, the group released ‘This Will Change’, the lead single from their upcoming Creative-Scotland-funded EP. Using a Latin Samba rhythm, Afro-Caribbean percussion, finger picking guitar, Santana style lead work and vocal harmonies, the track was inspired by the brutal murder of George Floyd and the ensuing Black Lives Matter protests and voices a powerful and inspiring protest against systemic racism.
The song ‘This Will Change’ was recorded with award-winning producer Dave Lloyd of Stillhound at Lost Oscillation Studios in Leith, where the band are based. All proceeds from the sale of the track are going to Intercultural Youth Scotland, a charity providing specialist support to young people who face barriers to success.
Since their inception in Summer of 2018 the group have received critical acclaim from a multitude of press and online blogs, including playlisting from the Scottish Alternative Music Awards in their monthly new music round up, and airplay from Scottish music industry figures like Jim Gellatly.
In December 2020 the group discovered they will receive funding from Creative Scotland for their next EP. The band describe the EP as
four tracks featuring 60’s organ, barroom piano, guitar solos, a samba rhythm, a synth, bongos, pounding drums, vocal harmonies, political protest, and a psychedelic mushroom trip, and best work yet.
The EP will be available from Felix And The Sunsets’ Bandcamp profile on February 26th. Each remaining song will be brought to streaming services on the last Friday of February, March and April.
