Visitors will be taken on a ‘round-the-world lighting odyssey’ at award-winning Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh event
Botanic Lights is set to return for a third year this October/November, with almost a month of enthralling nights at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). Due to the popularity of the event over the last two years and following a run of sell-out shows in 2015, audiences are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
2014 was the first time the Garden opened to visitors at night for the outdoor light experience, which resulted in record attendances and over 23,000 visitors flocking to the event to experience a unique display combining light, sound and nature. Last year, over 26,000 tickets were snapped up as visitors were treated to a spectacular show combining all the seasons. Audiences are anticipated to increase further for Botanic Lights 2016 as visitors attend the event crowned winner of the Scottish Event Awards 2015 ‘Best Large Event’.
This year’s Botanic adventure will be created through light, heat, sound scape and visual effects, powered by state-of the-art technology. New for 2016, visitors will get a sense, through sight and sound, that they are on a journey of discovery from China to the US, the Himalaya and Nepal, and on to the tropics, and the wonder of the chilly Arctic. The power of light and nature will transform Edinburgh’s Garden into an extraordinary adventure across the globe.
Light installations will transform popular Garden features such as the Victorian Palm House, The Chinese Hillside and Inverleith House, while illuminating the rich living collection of plants, turning the Garden itself into the story of a voyage around the world.
This year’s event will run from 13 October to 6 November, every night except Mondays. Individual and group tickets, at a range of prices, are now on sale from:
Heather Jackson, Director of Enterprise at RBGE said:
Around 50,000 people have come to see Botanic Lights since we started in 2014, and we look forward to welcoming some of them back this year, along with new visitors. The last two years’ experience has told us that tickets sell out quite quickly, particularly for weekend slots, and as this year’s event is a bit earlier than usual we have decided to put the tickets on sale now to give everyone a chance to plan ahead.”
We are excited about this year’s concept – a lot of work goes into making every lighting set spectacular, and much effort is spent to ensure that Botanic Lights is unique and exciting for returning and new visitors alike. We can’t wait to hear this year’s visitors’ reactions!
