My artwork examines the concept of national identity and cultural heritage. For over a decade I have done this through the game of baseball. In 2019 I painted all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums live. To date I have painted over 120 different ballparks across 15 different countries. Each artwork is made live during the 9 innings of a baseball game.
In 2009 I attended my first baseball game in Busan, South Korea. Sport reveals who we are as a nation, region, city, culture and society. Within a ballpark we can see a nation’s identity from the food, music, fashion, iconography, geography, religion, economics and politics. We see the national character and societal expectation in how the game is played, how it is celebrated, commiserated along with who we admire and revere.
My art draws great influence from the Impressionists and Expressionists. As an artist I seek to immerse myself fully in the environment I am in, infuseing the paint with the entire atmosphere and its effects on all my senses.
My work has been featured on the BBC, ESPN, Fox, MLB Network and more. It has also been recognised by Buckingham Palace and there is a question about my work in the board game Trivial Pursuit. I have also painted portraits of the players live including David Ortiz, Robinson Cano, Jeremy Pena and many more. In 2022 ‘El Arte Del Beisbol’ a travelogue of my work documenting the baseball culture of the Dominican Republic was published by Coleccion Inicia.
