These particular artworks are very recent and, therefore, share similar visual, emotional and intellectual characteristics. In terms of style, I mix abstract and surrealist art with Japanese inspired line work. I enjoy working with bold colours and creating an uneasy atmosphere of claustrophobic movement. Emotionally, all my artworks are about an internal conflict in relating and coming to terms with one’s human condition and existential unease. There is a sense of alienation, fear and struggle to create beauty in the face of uncertainty. There is also a strong awareness of oneself as linked to environmental degradation caused by excessive urbanisation which is experienced in a personal way, as someone struggling with urban living. In Raven Clawed, for instance, the crow (or raven) is a symbol for pandemic lifeforms thriving on urban garbage and in turn diminishing the environmental diversity and richness of the landscape. There is also a yearning for beauty and natural freedom as in ‘Frozen World’, a silent, cold, clean utopia.~ Sofia Thuru
