In a Galaxy not so far away, Father of 3 Keith Armour who lives in Livingston, Scotland is using the power of Sci fi and Comics to do good in the community.
Although recently being rushed to Hospital with a serious Asthma attack and finding out his 14 month old daughter has type 1 Diabetes, He has not let this stop his plans of putting on a 2 day Sci fi event called Capital Sci fi Con. The Edinburgh event will take place on the 27th and 28th of February 2016 at Meadowbank Stadium to raise money for CHAS the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.
It has been a year of planning and the not-for-profit convention will be giving all it’s proceeds to the local Scottish Charity who give care to the children and their families with life shortening illnesses.
The event will host actors and actresses from sci-fi movies and TV programmes such as Dave Prowse the original Darth Vader, Virginia Hey the Warrior woman from mad max 2 and priest from Farscape, Also actors/actresses from Dr Who, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Star Wars and more (Jimmy Vee, Ross Mullan, Pam Rose, Nick Joseph, Nathalie Cox, Katie Purvis, Angus Macinnes, Richard Campbell, Rony Bridges and Andrew Lawden).
The Media guests will be signing autographs and taking part in stage talks over the course of the weekend.
You will have the chance to take part in Jedi Training Academies, How to Draw sessions, Blast a Trooper and there are photo opportunities with life-size props such as Jabba the Hutt, Dr Who’s Tardis, Iron Man’s Armour Pod, Speeder Bike, Thor’s Hammer and Cars from Transformers will be there, Bumblebee and Barricade.
If you like Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and other Gerry Anderson related puppets and vehicles, There will be a display there from the collective.
If art is your thing, There will be a Star Wars art exhibit from Glasgow 3D artist Mike Boyle where he takes Glasgow and Edinburgh locations and landmarks then adds an art invasion of Star Wars spacecraft such as the Millennium Falcon or Luke’s Landspeeder, In the exhibit there is also life size props and costumes from Mike Lawson.
A costume cosplay contest will be taking place on the Sunday for 2 categories 12 and under, 13 and over with prizes including Playstation 4, Xbox 1, trophies, Nando’s vouchers and more.
Owl magic from Ayr will be bringing a whole host of Owl species which appeared in Harry Potter for you to have the chance of handling.
There will also be a whole array of costumed characters for you to get photos with over the weekend from costume clubs: The Rebel Legion UK/ The UK Garrison/ UK Colonial Marines/ The Super Heroes/ Galactic Academy.
Dalek’s will be patrolling the event looking to exterminate the doctor and to top it all off, there will be a trader hall where you will have the chance to buy comics, art,
Toys, collectibles, clothing, props and some of the companies you can expect to find at the event are Forbidden Planet, Game, Venus’ Vault, Oscar Cat Creations, Order 66 toys and many more.
The event has attendees travelling from all over Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands and in the events first year this can only mean good things for the future.
