‘butchered’ is my latest print series which is made up of 20 individual designs. Personally, I enjoy leaving my work up to interpretation as it is intentionally multi-faceted. For this collection and within my own view, the themes of violence against women and veganism are pertinent. It encapsulates the frustration, objectification and ‘madness’ that women are regularly subject to. However, I feel it is important to still make the observer laugh with a tongue-in-cheek approach as it is the most effective way to engage with an audience. This is often exhibited through the use of ‘blobbies’ and cartoon effects. I find particular interest in seeing which pieces the viewer is drawn to and why, supporting the need for further practise. ~ Emily Brooks Millar
