Rapture Theatre is one of Scotland’s leading touring theatre companies with a touring itinerary that The Scotsman has described as “second to none“.
Our recent productions of “Clybourne Park” by Bruce Norris and “The Red Lion” by Patrick Marber have garnered four and five star reviews and our Rapture Bites 2019 touring lunchtime theatre season played to packed audiences in over 20 small and medium venues across Scotland
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic we have had to postpone the two plays that made up our scheduled Rapture Bites 2020 Touring Lunchtime Theatre Season: The Dock Brief by John Mortimer and The Shawl by David Mamet
The plays were due to tour areas, both urban and rural, which have low provision of touring theatre, and to communities that are isolated. The majority of our audience tend to be older and all our audience relish the social interaction that lunchtime theatre brings.
To reach out to, keep connection with and entertain our audience we have decided to launch Rapture Mini-Bites.
This will be series of short films (approx 3 mins) with a performance of speeches from classic plays, short stories, poems or musical routines. Confirmed performers for the Rapture Mini Bites series include Brookside star John McArdle (who appeared in Rapture’s production of The Red Lion), Wildcat and Play, Pie and a Pint legend Dave Anderson, Batman Begins actress Sara Stewart (nominated for the prestigious CATS Theatre Awards for theatre in Scotland for her performance in Rapture’s production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf) and Monarch of the Glen and River City star Alexander Morton.
Rapture will then share these weekly posts via our social media and our website.
We are delighted to announce that over 15 of the theatres we visit regularly have signed up to share the content across their social media and internet platforms.
Rapture will also be asking its audience to take part in Rapture Mini Bites by taking a video selfie, talking about why they love theatre and perhaps reveal their favourite theatre experience
We were disappointed to postpone our Rapture Bites 2020 Season and we were keen to keep a connection and entertain audiences. In the current situation Rapture becomes like a concert party during the war, providing light relief in dark times. I am also thrilled that so many wonderful performers have signed up to take part and we are delighted to provide opportunities for performers at a time when theatres are closed.
We collaborate with each performer to select pieces that are personal to them and which they love.
The first two Rapture Mini Bites featuring Dave Anderson and John McArdle have been a great success and its really rewarding to see that we are entertaining audiences at a difficult time.
Theatres are shared spaces, shared by performers and the audience. Rapture wants to keep that space shared online.
In a one minute video selfie, we want the audience to share their love for theatre, why they love it and was there a particular theatre experience that stands out. We will then share some of the video selfies as part of the Rapture Mini Bites posts.
Audiences can send their 1 minute video theatre selfie to: [email protected]
