Soulful and spiritual, Swedish/Indonesian singer Nicole Cassandra Smit releases the lushy orchestrated Sundown, a touching meditation on her grandmother’s illness

Nicole a brand new UK based talent, and will release Sundown, the debut song and video from an album destined for release in summer 2022.

Originally penned in 2021 and subsequently recorded in one vocal take in an Edinburgh studio, Sundown is the gate opener for Nicole’s deeply personal journey she embarked on over 18 months ago, both as a solo artist and as a granddaughter, learning to cope with the debilitating dementia her Grandmother lives with in Sweden.

Raw, vulnerable and highly charged, Sundown is a step into the unknown for Nicole and it’s a song that doesn’t give her much comfort despite the spiritual essence it evokes. Yet it was a simple, creative response for Nicole, recognising that a sense of peace and serenity would surround her grandmother if she decided to let go.

I know you want it over, over
I know you want it over, over
You want it to be over, over
You want it to be over, over

Than to live in the dark of the Sundown
Better leave in the light of the Sundown

When there’s too much to be, to become now
Won’t do no good in the long run
It’s time to get up off your knees
Climb in to the garden of sleep

Nicole has chosen to wear pink as part of Sundown, a colour that both her Grandmother and Mother commonly  wear and it’s part of a matriarchal theme that will lead into her new album that will also be released on her own Edinburgh based label, Liljekonvalj Records.
