London-based drummer and composer Chiminyo has shared a stunning new live session video for his track “Reachin'”. The track is taken from his critically acclaimed debut album “I AM PANDA”, which came out in 2020 via London analogue specialists Gearbox Records.
Filmed in an expansive North London warehouse, the video follows Chiminyo’s recent one-shot, live session video for “See Me” ft. K.O.G.
The live session for “Reachin'” is the culminative brainchild of the same three creative forces. Dancer and creative producer Muti Musafiri, film maker Jordan Rawi and the artist behind the track, Chiminyo. Together they wanted to portray the powerful experience of a Chiminyo stage performance as a live session video. The performance here is breath-taking, and the energy captured in the film truly reflect the excitement felt by the whole creative team on the day of the shoot.
Chiminyo’s debut album, ‘I AM PANDA,’ has earned him rave reviews, airplay from BBC6 and BBC1Xtra, and over 200K plays across singles “See Me”, and ‘Breathin’, with Clara Serra López.
The drummer/composer’s inventive music, consisting of sounds triggered live from his drum kit, has been described as a brain-burrowing fusion of shimmering electronic chords and driving synth bass undertones, all underpinned by a hailstorm of constantly-varying rhythmic patterns. With eight tracks, Chiminyo creates a euphoric, multi-genre listen that traverses future pop, jazz, electronic, and time itself. Prior to this debut, he has collaborated with the likes of Nubya Garcia, Zara McFarlane, Shabaka Hutchings, and Theon Cross.
Recorded at the iconic Konk Studios in North London by Riccardo Damian and mastered with Gearbox’s all-analogue technique, the music is a daring exploration of the contrasting yet complimentary digital and analogue soundscapes that characterise Chiminyo.
